Don’t confuse turpentine oil with gum turpentine, which is the resin.
Turpentine oil is applied to the skin for joint pain, muscle pain, nerve pain, and toothaches.
People sometimes breathe in (inhale) the vapors of turpentine oil to reduce the chest congestion that goes along with some lung diseases.
In foods and beverages, distilled turpentine oil is used as a flavoring.
In manufacturing, turpentine oil is used in soap and cosmetics and also as a paint solvent.
How does it work?
Turpentine oil, when inhaled, may help reduce congestion. When used on the skin, turpentine oil may cause warmth and redness that can help relieve pain in the tissue underneath.
turpentine that is truly the distilled resin of pine trees.
Pine Oil: A Potential Panacea?
Pine oil provides a pile of profound health benefits as tall as its trees. Discover more about pine oil and why it’s a favorite essential oil in aromatherapy.
What Is Pine Oil?
Pine oil is a colorless to pale yellow essential oil. Depending on its source, pine oil may either have a fresh, earthy, and forest-like fragrance or a strong, dry, balsamic, turpentine-like odor. Also called fir leaf oil or oleum folii pini sylvestris, pine oil should not be confused with pine nut oil. Pine nut oil, which is also referred to as pinon, pine kernel, or Indian nut, is a vegetable oil mostly used for cooking. It is derived from the seeds of the pine tree.
Pine oil, on the other hand, is extracted through steam distillation of the needle-like foliage of the pine tree. Generally, pine oil comes from trees of the genus Pinus. Some of its well-known varieties include
Dwarf pine needle (Pinus mugo) – A tall and shrub-like tree harvested from the Swiss Alps. In Europe, this plant is used in healing skin and scalp diseases.
Long leaf pine or turpentine (Pinus palustris) – This tree, which grows up to 150 feet, originates from the United States and is widely used for the distillation of American gum spirits of turpentine. It was also used by the Native Americans to prevent scurvy.
Scotch pine or Norway pine (Pinus sylvestris) – This high, evergreen tree has a reddish-brown and deeply fissured bark that grows pair of long, stiff needles. Largely produced in the Baltic states, the essential oil from this species is a hypertensive, tonic stimulant.
Benefits of Pine Oil
Pine oil has antimicrobial, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-neuralgic, and anti-rheumatic properties. It also works as a good decongestant and expectorant for respiratory ailments. In addition, pine oil is praised for its ability to naturally:
Ease muscular stiffness and rheumatism as a rubefacient
Relax the body when added in bath
Stimulate healthy metabolism
Boost activity levels
Help eliminate excess water, uric acid, salt, and fat through urination
Neutralize free radicals with its rich antioxidant capacity
Cure urinary tract infection (UTI)
What I love about pine oil is that it’s a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent, which makes it a potential substitute for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that comes with loads of devastating side effects. here are some reminders and caveats:
* You should only ever take Turpentine at a maximum frequency of twice a week. The adult dose is 1 teaspoon. Work up to the one teaspoon dose slowly.
* You should also take castor oil with the turps dose. The castor oil dose can vary from 1 tablespoon(mild laxative) to 4 tablespoons(strong laxative). You can mix in a little honey or BSM for taste.
* Under no circumstances should you be taking turpentine continually on a daily basis for extended periods. For serious problems, the maximum number of consecutive days allowed for supplementing turps is 7 days only.
Dr Jennifer Daniels does report that in one case she had a woman who initially ignored her advice and who took too high a dose of turpentine to start with and she had black areas on her skin andface as a result due to excessive detox through the skin. These black areas all disappeared when she reduced her dose. Dr Daniels article is here.

There’s certainly mountains of research showing the benefits of this. I know you’ve probably seen lots of patients, with all your research. But just this one, 100 references to different research, peer reviewed kind of stuff. They talk about things from parasites to cancer cells to pathogenic bacteria of all kinds, fungus, yeast, rheumatism
P: MRSA. Sciatica, nephritis, constipation, mercury salivation. What’s mercury salivation?
J: No clue. I think that’s when they give mercury a lot, and people would actually expunge mercury from their body. Mercury was used as a cure for syphilis. So a lot of medicines had mercury in them, so people as recently as 100 years ago were commonly overdosed on mercury by their doctors. So what they’re saying is this actually improves that.
P: And then also, according to this report, there’s quite a few medicines that the pharmaceutical companies use and they had turpentine to it.
J: Absolutely. Now let me tell you about that. Turpentine in the United States is declared as a flammable, toxic substance that is unlawful to take across state lines, it is unlawful to use and advocate for internal use, but it’s okay for the drug companies to use it in a purified form. And so it’s a double standard. Turpentine is in a class more dangerous even than cocaine. It’s considered to not have any medical use and not to have any safe use in human beings. Now the way the drug companies use it, any drug company that does use it, it’s going to listed not as an ingredient but as an inactive ingredient. So it’s okay to list turpentine as an inactive ingredient, but it cannot be an active ingredient
Fortunately, either the smoker or the person who tries to quit smoking have the opportunity to keep their lungs healthy for a longer period of time.
How to stay healthy while you smoke
Smoking is a very serious and dangerous addiction, which seems to be the main cause of lung cancer. Nevertheless, one can continue its habits, but still have a healthy system on the basis of different lifestyle changes he/she can opt for.
On one hand the smoker should change his daily diet and include foods rich in antioxidants such as garlic, leeks or onion and consume more turmeric and ginger, as they calm inflammations and irritations caused by smoke. On the other hand, the smoker should do some sport and perform deep breathing exercises which will clean and purify the lungs.
Mix well 400 gr of brown sugar with 1L of water, 1kg of onions, 2 tsp of turmeric and 1 small peeled ginger root in a saucepan. Let the water boil at low flame until the liquid is reduced by half. Strain the mixture obtained and preserve it in a jar in the fridge.
Consume two tablespoons of elixir two times a day, before breakfast and before dinner.
This remedy will definitely not replace quitting smoking, but it will repair part of the damage caused by smoke and additives.
